Recipe for Gingerbread
The big aspect of decorating artificial Christmas trees with Gingerbread is having a recipe that is going to be easy for you to work with. Here is just a basic Gingerbread recipe:
5 cups of all purpose flour
4 tsp of ground ginger
1 tbsp of ground cinnamon
1 tsp of nutmeg
½ tsp of ground cloves
1 tsp of salt
½ tsp of baking soda
16 tbsp or 2 sticks of unsalted butter
2/3 cup of firmly packed brown sugar
2 large eggs
2/3 cup of molasses
Whip this up, roll it out and start making your cookies. You will find that you should put a hole into the top of the cookie before it bakes to allow you to string ribbon through this to hang on your tree. Cook for about 15 minutes at 350 degrees…of course this is going to vary according to what you are cooking with.
Use colored icings and designs to make your cookies stand out. You can also spray these with a clear coat after you have decorated these and they are ready to hang on the tree. Many people do this to allow the ornament to have a shine to it. Just remember, this batch of gingerbread is not for eating!
